hi,

hysol, emerson and cuming, and 3m used to be the big players in potting compounds. you should talk to their customer engineers if you haven't already. besides excellent thermal conductivity, you also need to be concerned about potential problems with shrinkage in the potting compound when it cures, flammability, temperature resistance, and adhesion to your aluminum. so many questions...so little time.

Subject: [TN] Thermal Potting Mix

We have a scenario where we want to put string of rectifier diodes in
series, onto
an aluminium heatsink, to conduct heat from them. What we envisaged doing is
soldering these diodes onto a single sided circuit board and potting this
assembly
onto the heatsink.

My question is what is the most suitable thermally conductive potting mix to
use for this case, and will not let loose, or break free from the aluminium
over
time?

Colin Weber
