Hi, all!

One of the chemists from the Zestron people have taken me to task over
what I have written here. I have voluntarily put a Statement from them
on my download site at
http://www.protonique.com/download/ , to be fair to them. However, there
are a number of points in this document that I cannot agree with.

DEK market a stencil cleaner with only 0.5% of the same product in it,
yet they evoke the risk of corneal injury in their MSDS.

In the J.T. Baker MSDS, I quote the following:
Potential Health Effects
     ----------------------------------

Information on the human health effects from exposure to this
substance is limited.

     Inhalation:
Causes irritation to the respiratory tract. Symptoms may include
coughing, shortness of breath.
     Ingestion:
No information found, but material is expected to cause irritation
or burns to the gastrointestinal tract.
     Skin Contact:
Causes severe irritation with redness, pain, and possibly skin
burns.
     Eye Contact:
Causes severe irritation. May cause redness, pain, blurred vision,
and eye damage.
     Chronic Exposure:
     No information found.
     Aggravation of Pre-existing Conditions:
     No information found.

This is part of a much longer document at
http://www.jtbaker.com/msds/a4572.htm but it is much more reasonable, in
my opinion. This document also advises, as I did, "Maintain eye wash
fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area."

I dislike this kind of situation, especially when the product has much
going for it, as being one of the best of its kind, even though they
claim that its saponifying qualities are not the main operating
principle (although I maintain that it does saponify).

I have requested the Zestron people that they may care to consider
modifying their documents to a less categorical position by applying a
more precautionary principle.

I have copied this message to my interlocutor.

Best regards,

Brian
