No amount or type of conformal coating will PREVENT anything of ionic
origin happening whether on the surface or internally (or in your cave).
It will only DELAY it happening. As Anne Robinson would say, it's as
simple as that.

The Forth railway bridge, in Scotland, a magnificent piece of Victorian
engineering about 1.5 km long, a triple cantilever iron bridge, is
conformally coated with a special protective paint which takes about 2
years to apply over its length, with a team of 8 painters, who also take
pains to remove any rust that's formed since the previous painting.
Guess what they do when they've finished painting the bridge? They go
back to where they started and begin painting it all over again! In
other words, the best organic protective coating is good for a couple of
years, and this one doesn't have to have superb electrical properties,
as well, so metals can be incorporated.

Best regards,

Brian

PS Acetic or ethanoic acid ain't the same thing as formic or methanoic
acid, there's a CH2 more in the acetic.
