Thanks for the input Joyce,

I totally agree especially concerning qualified suppliers. My problem is
teaching and bringing together clients with suppliers. The clients haven't a
clue, even after I leave them, what a PCB is let alone what is required to
build it in accordance with whatever required specification.

My master and assembly drawing notes could sink a battleship. However, I do
work with a core of highly qualified suppliers who take no issue with the
drawing requiremements, notes and all.

What this does for the client is offer the oppertunity to evaluate and
qualify new suppliers, when needed especially in this drop dead economy with
every shop coming out of the woodwork even offering to build a lot of boards
free, simply by providing the supplier the drawings and the notes therein.

The whole purpose of the exercise is to attempt concurrent engineerign with
a communications tool equally clear to both suppliers and clients. If a
supplier coughs even slightly, at say x-sectional requirements, that
supplier is not considered to be even slightly qualified or interested,
whichever comes first.

Simply, I effect DFM using CE at the design level whenever possible. As far
as cleanliness goes, you Ingemar, and Brian always say what is what. As
Ingemar just wrote: "You may have an overall clean board but some spots may
not be so" - or something to that effect.

I can not now honestly think of a way to write a note either for a master or
assembly drawing that would make sense but for writing another book.

Thanks as always JK,

Jarl (I do like the sound of that as it just rolls of my tongue)
