Cleanliness is one of those issues that causes a lot of pain. Current bare
board specifications have a level of 10 micrograms/sq in NaCl eq for the bare
board prior to solder mask application. That is it!

If you are going to use low solids or no clean flux then you need to find out
from your flux supplier what level of cleanliness AND the method used to
determine that value.

There are ionic cleanliness testers with heated solutions and ones without so
it is important to also specify the test parameters.

It is perfectly acceptable for you to request some sort of hard paper data
that shows that a cleanliness test has been performed on your lot of boards
and I would strongly advise it. Once a day on a random lot is not always the
best way to go.

Remember the cleanliness testing that you do on the final assembly to prove
that it meets YOUR customer requirements should be the same as the one you
impose on your board shop.

Good Luck
