I went through this very same thing recently. I personally think lotion should
not be used at all, but that would go over like a lead balloon. I believe that
knitted, white cotton gloves would be best for handling electronics.

Here is what we did. We now have IC lotion located in numerous locations such as
cafeteria, outside bathrooms and other strategic locations to provide the proper
electronic industry lotion (if their is such a thing) to all employees. The use
of unauthorized lotion (anything other than what is provided) is prohibited from
use. The new IC lotion smells good unlike the old stuff that really stinks. The
people on production like the new lotion and actually use it. We have not had
any infractions that I am aware of. As far as a statement goes, it would be
something like this. Use of unauthorized hand lotions shall not be permitted for
any employee who handles electronic assemblies or components. Only authorized
(company provided) lotion may be used.

Hope this helps

Please put your legal hats on and help with a statement that would cover the
"Hand Lotion" issue in 3.4.3.

I am trying to get a statement into our company policy and am getting some
resistance on the proper wording. I am open to suggestions on proper wording
of a clear statement that eliminates the possibility of someone using an
unacceptable hand cream (i.e. Avon, Jergens (all good hand creams, but not
on circuitry), etc.). Any examples would be appreciated. Would like to make
this a non-issue soon.

Thanks,
