Contact the paste manufacturer who should be able to tell you the usable
life of the paste once out in the open and on a board.
In general the usable life of most pastes is 0 - 30 minutes. During and
after this time the volatiles begin to disperse and the reflow capabilities
will diminish.
I can't see the point in removing one paste m/c unless they have proved
there would be a significant improvement in throughput times. Are the
machines run by separate teams? Are the lines close enough for the paste
machines to be run by one team moving between them?
Regards and good luck

Subject: [TN] Paste sit time
Hi all,
Has anybody got any idea on how long it takes for paste, that has been
stenciled onto a PCB to start and degradate. Our planning department is
trying to suggest we use one printer to feed two lines and I have had little
success in advising otherwise. It would basically mean that pasted PCB's
would sit for 10-60minutes before placement. I have advised that this is a
bad idea, but I just need some form of information to back this up. Has
anyone had any experiance in this??? Any information would be appreciated,
Cheers
Mike
