DI systems are a great habitat for bacteria. The solution is not strictly UV or a filter
as you still have the organic and bodies in solution, just dead. A 0.2 micron filter will
remove the bacteria after the IX. They need to sterilize the system using sodium
metabisulfite or guteraldahyde. Take precautions with either as they can be nasty. Talk
to the resin supplier. They probably have carbon and a media filter, these are also
loaded with bacteria. To do it right, you need a closed system from the feed to the DI
with a UV IN FRONT OF THE DI SYSTEM, to keep bacteria out after you sterilize it. They
need to sterilize all of their piping and tanks.
