hi,
i assume that your 'bright' zinc plating is zinc plating with a 'clear' chromate conversion coating. there are problems with this. clear chromate conversion coating is near useless for corrosion protection; it's main application is for cosmetic purposes. besides not offering much protection, it's difficult to determine even if there is any 'bright' coating on the zinc plating. i suggest going for the coating that ends up looking light brown. with the brown stuff, you know it's there because of its color. you should also realize that these finishes do not prevent corrosion; they just postpone it.
if you can't tolerate any corrosion, you'll need to spend some more money and, for example, paint the part.

Subject: [TN] Sheet Metal Plating
Hello there,
We are seeing some sheet metals with problems like corrosion, finger
print and some kind of weird brown spot on them. we have specified
Bright Zinc Plating on them. I am interested in sending this to any
local lab fro analysis.
(1) Name of any lab where I send them for analysis, preferably local in
San Jose Bay Area.
(2) Should I change the plating spec?
(3) What is passivation?
My vendor was suggesting Double Zinc Plating. Any help will be highly
appreciated.
