Hi, Werner,

No, I haven't seen any real evidence either. As I said in my reply post to
Patti, I haven't actually tried FRS's myself, and I should add that I don't
know anyone else who has. Your argument is logical, though - FRS appears
better in accelerated testing, but long term reliability in the real world
is not known yet.

NIST (National Institute of STandards & Technology), with MSEL (Material
Science and Engineering Lab) seem to have been doing quite a bit of
research into FRS's, but mostly it all seems to be "new", without much
history. Time, do doubt, will tell! Apart from being a bit more expensive
to buy, I don't see much harm can be done in using these solders, though I
don't know what the chemistries involved are for the additional dopants
used. Do you have any interesting info to share on the subject?

Hi Peter,
I have heard about "Fatigue Resistant Solders" but I have never seen any
evidence that those in fact are fatigue resistant in actual use
environment.
Inaccelerated testing fine-grained solder last about double the fatigue
cycles than coarse grained solder, but that does not translate to a real
reliability increase in non-accelerated environments. Have you seen any
real
evisence?
