Steve,
Looks like the designer/OrCAD has depicted pin 1 and every multiple of 10
pins after (10,20,30,...). Some people will put down a rectangular pad just
for pin 1 to aid in troubleshooting/repair (I don't). It may not affect the
assembly process much; we used to use rectangular pads, and then switched to
the rounded corners (maybe cuz they look so cute!).
In response to the designer claiming that since OrCAD made the footprint
that way so it's okay, tell him that OrCAD doesn't have to build the product
or insure its quality...
Really, as long as the length and width of the pads are not different it
probably will not be a problem.
