 520-680 for a 600 degree tip? >>

The official answer that I got is that for a 600 degree tip the acceptance
spec internally at Matcal is 620 +60 -20 degrees. I have measured with a
variety of instruments and techniques, all with fairly consistent results.
Typically the difference between an imbedded T/C and other devices
specifically made for tip temperature measurement falls around 6-10 degrees
due to poorer thermal transfer.
