Ken,

I searched sever years ago and had a hard time finding a document that wanted to nail down torques for a specific screw size. This is due to each application can have a different set of characteristics.

I did collect a bunch of material (SAE ARP 1928 was one of them) and we settled on the following as our " internal standards"

2-56 - 3 inlb
4-40 - 8 inlb
6-32 - 10 inlb
8-32 - 20 inlb
10-32 - 32 inlb
1/4-20 - 60 inlb

These values assume the screw is steel or stainless steel. For brass the values should be lower and for nylon the values should be even lower yet.

Keep in mind these are not hard and fast numbers. You should test your application for what works best.

Regards,

Phil Nutting

Subject: [TN] IPC Torque Specifications

Does IPC have any Torque specifications for hardware mounting to FR-4? I
have searched the archives and only find peoples opinions. If IPC doesn't
have this does Mil Spec or ANSI?
