Hi Ioan,

It is similar to estimating TH. Go through the motion of building the
product and time each step. The timing will give you a total time to build
the product. From there, you can calculate the labor involved. Be sure to
compare your estimated time with what is actually seen in production and
keep that in a database. As you quote additional product, you will be able
to use previous experience (your database) to simply count how many of what
step is involved. Instead of counting "touch time" to grab and insert a TH
capacitor, you are counting "touch time" to route cable, plug in a
connector, drive a screw, etc..

(If you are in a high wage country, "touch time" product is tough to
competitively quote.)

good luck,

Ryan Grant

Subject: [TN] Labor estimation

Hi Technos,

since the forum does not seem to be very busy, I thought I might come up
with a question adjacent to the technical issues.

Anybody here involved with the labor estimation?

Not the SMT-TH part of it, but rather the mechanical assembly. How does one
calculate the labor for an electrical box, having inside PCAs, contactors,

connectors, tons of cables and a lot of wiring?

Any input or hint would be very appreciated.

Thank you,
Ioan
