Dan,

This brings up an interesting point. We tend to run large amounts of current through our lugs. (Oh, brain cramp - we can't run more current through the lug than the wire can handle, duh! Talk about needing coffee, geeze!) I'll use this as an argument with my engineers who insist on soldering all crimped lugs due the "lots of current" they are running through the connection. I guess we are trapped in the "we've always done it this way" syndrome.

To add onto Kathy's point, if we were to use RA or RMA flux solder for wires, how do I keep my assemblers from using the OA flux solder we use for circuit boards?

Good Morning Stu,
Two good reasons *not* to solder crimped connections.
1) it defeats the natural strain relief built into a crimped connection.
2) it introduces flux into the connection that cannot be removed since it
wicks past the insulation.
3) the connectors are designed not to be used with solder. (OK I don't count
so good, where's the coffee?)

Dan
