Lot's of folks began using silver way back when SMT was just starting to
catch on. The reasons were based on the need for "bright shiny" solder
joints. The silver, supposedly, did that for some.

I've never encountered any problems using silver coated boards and "normal"
eutectic solder pastes. Just too little silver in the paste to be an issue.
