Fellow Designers,

I usually start out a message with interest items such as membership growth or the starting of new chapters. Although our council membership has held its own, the economic downturn has clouded much of the good news and certainly had an impact on our members. Many of our colleagues are facing company cutbacks and unemployment. The best way for individual designers to stay on top of these issues is to enhance skills and improve their marketability. As we are here to serve you and the industry, we have realized the increasing need to alleviate the costs of networking and professional development.

As the organization for designers, by designers, the IPC Designers Council will not sit idle during this time of need. Quality, cost and availability of our offerings have been scrutinized. To this end, symposiums will be offered in both Dallas and Toronto in 2002 at greatly reduced attendance costs. Our sponsors and the IPC Designers Council have brought together some highly informative technical papers, general sessions, panel discussions, self development forums, technical workshops and hands-on sessions that are designed specifically to prepare the designer for these and future times.

I hope you will take advantage of this excellent educational and highly cost-effective event to further your professional skills and prepare yourself for your future. Show your support for the industry, yourself and these events by making your attendance plans now. You'll find more information about this event not only within the following pages of this brochure, but on-line as well.

I look forward to seeing you at the Designers Learning Symposiums.

Regards,

Rick Hartley, CID
