Bill,

We tried some similar wrist straps several years ago. Haven't seen the
one you mention, but they looked like a plastic 'sport watch' without
the face. We did a very limited informal test of these and while they
seemed to reduce the charges to some extent, a person wearing them could
build up a significant charge. As you noted, they tell you to wait for
some period of time before handling components. In our environment we
found this to be too restrictive, especially for personnel that were in
and out of ESD safe areas.

Subject: [TN] Is this for real?

Hello folks,

I was thumbing through my latest copy of a catalog from Cyberguys over
the week end and made, at least what I think, a startling find. They
have a Cordless ESD wrist strap, catalog number 116-0125. Apparently,
according to the catalog, it works on the corona principle and you have
to wear it for 15 minutes prior to being able to safely work on
electronic hardware. Yes, no more tethering! I am really skeptical but
open to anyone who has tried this. Cyberguys is a very credible company.

I really make a conscious effort not to reveal company names on this net
but this seems just too good to be true. If it is, say good bye to the
entire static flooring, ionizer, and related ESD items market. I'm not
in sales so I have nothing to gain.

Anybody out there have any comments on this? Anybody ever tried this?
