I would like to thank the respondents to my problem of last week -
MLB - spotwelding. Your comments have put a more realistic
perspective to what we are trying to do.

My 8 and even 10 layer mlbs work fine using the spotwelds, but I
don't believe that Earl Moon's mind boggling (for me) 52 layer would
stand a snowball's hope using this method. Somewhere between
the two must lie a point beyond which we cannot go. For us this is
probably at 10 layers as shown by our own experience and kind of
confirmed by Hans Hinners' observations about rivet layups having
a limitation of 10 layers (definitely a similar technque in principle).

Looks like I will have to bite the bullet, bring the old caul plates out
of mothballs and clean the rust off them for this one!
