I totally agree with you !

but what I mean in my last message is that at this time, it seems that few
recycling companies are intersting about recycling lead. Am I wrong on this
point too ?

Gwenna

I'm sorry to berate you, but the God-Almighty Dollar is not the only
reason to recycle. That having been said, the cost of NOT recycling may
be a lot higher than that of recycling. A major marine oil spill costs
zillions of times more in clean-up than the value of the oil recovered
or in the initial cargo, but you are saying effectively that we should
leave it to nature to cure the problem and to hell with the birds and
seals. By recycling lead, we reduce the amount mined, smelted and
refined, with all the attendant major pollution and workers' health
problems, usually in underdeveloped countries. Also, by reducing the
quantities mined, we are leaving more ore available for future
generations: there is a limited quantity and we must consider the
sustainability of limited resources. Furthermore, recovering solder from
electronics assemblies is not necessarily negative cost-effective,
because of the relatively high-value concomitant tin.

I am therefore 100% in favour of all possible forms of recycling and
economising of non-renewables, even if it is apparently not economically
viable (experience proves that the overall cost of the profligate use of
non-renewables is often higher than the protagonists would have us
believe: c.f., the increased cost of health care required by the
combustion of fossil fuels - this may be several times higher than that
of the fuels themselves).

Please accept my apologies for such a tough stance but neinsagers stifle
progress, since the days of the Luddites, or since the Pope told Galileo
that he was up the pole for pretending the world was round.
