Bill, I'd heard about this several times in recent months. The last issue
of ESD journal www.esdjournal.com has a test report, not the most rigorous
scientific work I've ever seen, but it may be informative. And why wear it
for 15 minutes? The one ESD journal tested claimed you only needed to wear
it for 15 seconds.
Some time back, I saw a picture of one of these with what looked like a
little Brillo pad attached to the band, looking like all those sharp edges
and kinks in the pads would promote corona discharge. The principle sounds
good, but, as I've heard others say, "In God we trust, all others bring
data".

Subject: [TN] Is this for real?
Hello folks,
I was thumbing through my latest copy of a catalog from Cyberguys over the
week end and made, at least what I think, a startling find. They have a
Cordless ESD wrist strap, catalog number 116-0125. Apparently, according to
the catalog, it works on the corona principle and you have to wear it for
15
minutes prior to being able to safely work on electronic hardware. Yes, no
more tethering! I am really skeptical but open to anyone who has tried
this.
Cyberguys is a very credible company. (www.cyberguys.com)
I really make a conscious effort not to reveal company names on this net
but
this seems just too good to be true. If it is, say good bye to the entire
static flooring, ionizer, and related ESD items market. I'm not in sales so
I have nothing to gain.
Anybody out there have any comments on this? Anybody ever tried this?
