You are correct in that silicon grease causes the same contamination issues
as other silicone based products. Handled incorrectly, silicone can be a
problem whether it is in heatsink grease, adhesives or potting compounds. I
don't know specifically about the switch issue you mentioned, but I do know
heatsink grease has a justly deserved reputation of having prolific
reproductive capacity. Having worked with it for many years I can tell you
it just seems to go everywhere despite one's best intentions otherwise.
Thank goodness for the invention of silicone pads.
