Hi Tom,

I ran into this problem a few years ago - check the list archives. As I
recall, the consensus was the flux core was protected by the solder and
shouldn't expire.  A down & dirty test could be to compare basic
solderability for the expired with in date flux-core wire.  If the stuff
still wets, passes a pull test and can't be distinguished from in date
solder then you could "requalify" it.  I'd be interested to hear what one of
the solder manufacturer's has to say about a requal procedure.  It might be
more of a marketing tool, such as the "best used by" date on soda cans.

As a follow-up question, has anyone ever come across flux cored wire
which has become functionally defective through age? Provided that the
temperature isn't excessive and the outer layers of the wire are
protected from surface oxidation, cored wire should last almost
indefinitley, shouldn't it?
