I think the flux guys would claim, with justification in some cases, that
their "at the point of use" kits are designed for a non chemist to be able
to use reliably. Conversely if you have a lab with proper chemists in it,
then they will be most likely able to do the titration anyway.

Neil,
It depends on who you ask. If you are talking about the quick and dirty
at-the-wave-solder-machine titrations, I doubt they will recommend you use
anything but their kits. But if you are going to do it in a lab with proper
equipment, trained personnel, you may be able to nicely ask them for their
lab procedure on how they do it. Some of them will give it to you, and some
won't.

Subject: [TN] Flux Testing using Titration
We are currently buying titration kits from a solder / flux supplier. Does
anyone out there buy the chemicals to do this from a standard chemical
supplier (cheaper?) and if so which chemicals do I need, in what
concentrations etc and can I just follow the same procedure and use the flux
manufacturer's titration curves?
Thanks,
Neil
