You´ve gotta be kidding!... or something really important did not come
through to me.
"Solder thieves" as I know them are a design feature just for that purpose
you want them. They usually consist of some kind of solderpad at the end of
a row of contacts that´s not connected to any circuitry with the task of
taking excessive solder. They are a build-in feature of your PCB and not to
be removed after soldering. Double the size/length of the last pad/THT
should be a good size for a solder thieve.

But something to add and respectively remove just for the soldering process
is absolutely new to me.
