Hi Darrel,

I have worked for a flex circuit manufacturer for about a decade. The
procedures for soldering flex are about the same as soldering other more
conventional substrates. You will want to bake the flex in an oven at approx
100 degrees F for at least an hour prior to assembly. Kapton is hygroscopic
and this will drive out any moisture absorbed by the kapton. You will also
want to try to complete the soldering operation in the shortest time
possible. You will not want to dwell on the flex for long.

Hope this helps.

Technet,

Does anyone have any guidelines for soldering flex circuit directly to a
PWB? We currently connect it mechanically and with a connector, but
were toying with the idea of direct solder attach.

Any experience, do's and don't, especially horror stories, appreciated.

Thanks......DT
