Exemption is for lead-containing solders with a lead amount higher than 85
wt.% (high temperature solder alloys).

The ELV directive 2000/53/EC as published in the Official Journal on
21.October 2000 exempts lead in "solder in electronic circuit boards
and other applications" under Annex II, 11., wheras the exemption
"electrical components which contain lead in glass or ceramic matrix
compound" shall be further evaluated by the "Technical Advisory
Committee".
This subject is still under discussion and will be considered for the
next amendment of the Annex II.

I have a question about the exemptions in ELV. In the initial proposal
COM 1997/0358 Article 4 sub 2 we find: "Lead used as solder in
electronic circuit boards shall be exempted from the first
subparagraph". In the final act 200L0053 in Annex II with exemptions
we
find: "electrical components which contain lead in a glass or ceramics
matrix compound". This is much stricter. Is there still an exemption
on
lead in solder in general? If so, where can I find this?

With kind regards,
Nienke Bruinsma
