Automotives are covered in a seperate ELV end of life vehicles Directive
in which hazardous materials, including lead, are banned from July 2003.

BUT

there are various exemptions and lead in solder has an exemption and can
continue in use (at least until the next review)

Automotive electronics are not covered in WEEE.

I believe that WEEE covers automotive electronics. Perhaps you are
thinking
about automotive only VDA (IMDS) which does exempt electronics.

I seem to remember a posting some time back that stated that automotive
electronics are exempt from the WEEE directive. Is this true? I
couldn't
find it in the WEEE copy I have.
