Hi Mike! Tungsten/copper alloys are used as base metals with additional
plating finishes (such as gold/nickel) in a number of industry wide
applications. We have a couple of applications within Collins which are WCu
with a gold/nickel finish. WCu alloys do not always behave "well" but many
plating chemistry suppliers have preparation methods and plating
chemistries which should meet your needs. Contact your plating chemistry
suppliers for assistance. Good Luck.

Subject: [TN] Tungsten-Copper Heat Sinks

I am looking for a source for some custom-designed 85% tungsten/15% copper
heat sinks to be soldered to a circuit board. The pieces are small
(0.75"x0.75") and thin (0.062"). I'm familiar with using copper in these
types of applications but not WCu. For Cu we typically have the heat sink
plated with nickel-gold. Can I do the same thing with a WCu piece or do I
need "special" plating processes? Does anyone have any recommendations,
advice, warnings?

Thanks.
