Hi Steve, David, Kathy,Phil, Dorothy, Roger, all

to clarify the situation.
- Yes, the holes are to large, this has been changed for newer designs but
unfortunately not for the older boards (this is just the way we work :-( ,
DONīT PUT YOUR MONEY IN OLD THINGS, regardless if they are built over and
over again ).
- The leads are 90°
- This is just an additional 72pin connector secured with 1 screw in the
middle ( not very ingenious ). Not on the pictures is the main connector
with 288 pins, power and coding section that is secured with 2 srews. We
could order a customized version of this whole connector assy with this
small connector attached to the rest of the assy, but that was cancelled
long ago cause this one was only meant as an option not used on some boards
and we liked the idea of saving some money by not ordering the complete assy
and ..... :-( !!!
- The connectors are mounted and secured by a stainless steel screw before
wave soldering (just not on the pictures, sorry). Maybe that isnīt good at
all ???
Here it is where the whole dilemma actually happend.
- There is no written extra spec for that but itīs was mentioned when we
first introduced our boards to that CM and it worked fine until they decide
to have the boards assembled at a different line with different people
without providing the necessary knowledge and instructions.

This is our "last order call" ( about 3000 boards/ 10 different ones but
with similar backplane connectors ) for the next 10 years service for
existing ATM-systems and the CM knows that there will be no more business
after these last batches because we will have no own products anymore in the
future.
Rework can be done with a small "rework wave", masking and resoldering only
the misaligned connector. The alignment takes place with the assistance of a
mating connectorassy attached to the board before resoldering (after loosing
the screw). This will adjust the tilted connector without any further effort
or action from the operator.

We decided to have them reworked this way because there will be only a
limited number of spare backplanes for the future that we canīt afford
losing to much of them because of bend or brocken pins.

Seems only that the CM wants some extra money for the dilemma he has caused.

Thanks for your answers
I hope that more than only me learn a bit from this

Wolfgang
