The reliability data I've seen for the SAC alloy is that it does have
improved reliability (thermal cycle data) below 100°C, but above that the
reliability drops.  Granted if we were making cell phones, no problem.
Unfortunately, temps underhood are going up not down.  Most of our modules
are mounted on the engine, so our solder joints have to handle the higher
temps.  Auburn has the Center for Advanced Vehicle Electronics which
generated the data I've seen.  If anyone is interested in the data they
should contact them.

As far as the market, yep it's the "green" aspect.  If you can buy 2 equal
products, but one is "environmentally friendly", which will you choose?
