The issue is too complex to simply develop a factor to translate from one
requirement to another. This question did generate quite a bit of discussion
about 18 months ago. I think someone did throw a number out but it could not
be very accurate.

A shop running bare minimum Class 2 would incur significant cost upgrading
there process control system to meet Class 3 requirements. (J-STD)
A shop running bare minimum Class 3 would not get much cost relief from the
slightly reduced performance requirements in the Standard.

Subject: [TN] IPC Class 2 vs Class 3 Price Considerations

Hello everyone,

My question is as follows:

What is the industry consensus on price considerations (during quoting) for
customers that require product inspections to IPC-A-610 Class 2 vs customers
that require product inspections to IPC-A-610 Class 3? Is there a general
multiplier that is used when considering the differences in these two
product classes?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Rich Lasko
