Mike,
I use my own judgement when sending an "off line" response to someone on
TechNet. I can report that over half my responses are sent off line, if that
were to be a data point in your audit. I send off line in three cases -
1, I have been invited into the "home" by the questioner - stating that they
welcome off-line replies
2. I know the information is commercial and will be partial to my employer,
but that our product or data can help the questioner
3. Most frequently - I am replying from memory to a question, and I think my
suggestions will help immediately. My information may not be perfect, or
cause the questioner to have to search the internet, something I could do
myself, but do not have the immediate time.
Others may have suggestions about how they use the "off line" feature
themselves.
