Hi Craig,

if you had an excessive amount of Au then that could effect the joint
appearance. Basically dull/shiny joints will be down to flux used, the
solder alloy (eutectic, non-eutectic, contaminant level) and how it freezes.
If the alloy freezes non-uniformly (non-eutectic/off-eutectic or
contaminated alloy) it will exhibit a dull appearance.

Subject: [TN] Shiny vs. Dull

Hello TechNetters,

Looking for confirmation that solder joints over gold platings will tend to
be duller than solder joints over HASL platings.

Thanks,
Craig
