One big caution I would put forth on Metcal iron that I learned the hard way
(and waaay too late...) - the "temperature ranges" of Metcal tips are not as
accurate as you might initially think from reading their literature.  As an
example, I found tips in the "600" family that are assumed to be around 620
degrees F that varied from 610 to 680 - all with the same part number
(configuration).  Each individual tip held about +/- 2 degrees, but the
center point of that range from tip to tip was anywhere in that 70 degree
window.  After talking to Metcal, that was considered acceptable to them.
