I venture to suggest that what you have been doing is not cleaning but
rather a re-distribution of the contaminants over a wider area.

If you have to clean, then use a machine ....poetry, pure poetry!

Otherwise I would recommend using a no-clean that you can leave on safely
without cleaning - is there such a thing? I am not sure but it does depend
upon the operating conditions your assembly is working under.
