Next Meeting

Wednesday, June 27, 2001, 4 to 6 PM at Cisco Systems, 320 Springside
Road in Akron
Topic: RF & Microwave PC Board Design
Format: Lecture by Rick Hartley of Applied Innovation, Inc. in Dublin,
Ohio

When designing a very high frequency analog application, in the range of
hundreds of MHz to multiple GHz, the key to a fully functional circuit
is to achieve very high signal integrity. The two areas of paramount
importance for high signal integrity are the design of the theoretical
circuit and the structure of the printed circuit board. Theoretical
circuit design and selection of base materials for the PC Board have
long been well understood by informed, practicing RF engineers. Printed
circuit design and layout techniques and strategies to achieve the
desired goals are less well understood, especially by the printed
circuit design community. This presentation will focus on layout
strategy (Line Types, Routing, Circuit Balance, PCB Stack-up, etc.) to
achieve a fully functional RF Analog / Microwave circuit.

Directions to Cisco Systems in Akron are as follows. From I-77 exit at
the Rt.18 East / Fairlawn sign. Northbound from I-77 must move quickly
to the left lane. At the first light turn left onto Springside Road.
Continue around the two curves to the right and after it straightens,
the three-story building on the left will be 320 Springside. Park and
enter at the main entrance. Go down to the lower level and the
amphitheater will be to the left of the elevators. Please RSVP to me by
June 22 so that we can order the food.
