we use a kingbright part
http://www.kingbright-led.com/Products/SMDLED/right%20angle.htm
it's called a 'right angle' but the solder pads go all around and can be
mounted 'under' a pcba and shine thru a hole (plated thru improves light
transmission thru the hole). sounds hokey but it works in a pinch,
especially if you're two sided already. checkout the rest of their line if
this doesn't work for you.
disclaimer: I don't work for Kingbright, own their stock, or have any
connections to them.......

Subject: [TN] AW: [TN] Surface Mount Reverse/Back mount LED
Mike,
strange thought just appeared and I have to admit that I havenīt tried it.
SOT23 LEDS placed in a hole, but how they can be picked upside down ???
Well, manually or repacked upside down maybe.
May be thatīs too strange
Wolfgang
Does anyone know of a surface mount LED that can be back/reverse mounted? I
am
looking for either a white
or true color RGB LED. The design requires that the LED be mounted on the
back
side of the PCB and a hole
cut in the PCB to allow the light to shine through. Any help would be
appreciated. Thank you.
Best Regards,
Mike
