I've used different systems over the years such as MVT, SVS and Scorpion. The main issues with
AOI is the false call rates. These can be kept to a minimum by fine adjustment of the
inspection algorithms but this consumes an engineers valuable time. I did work for an AOI
company called Intelligent Reasoning Systems www.irsinc.com which was a self teaching system,
after you input the CAD data you just showed it boards and it taught itself. False calls were
taught by by making the decision for the system a few times and then it learnt itself. It
sounds confusing I know but suprisingly it did work.
