Does anybody have any experience using Zestron VIGON SC 200 or SC 202 to
clean populated boards?

We have recently been asked by a couple of customers to comment on the
compatibility of our parts (tantalum chip caps) with these solvents. The
datasheets indicate that these cleaners are designed to clean stencils and
mis-printed boards - not boards with components attached. They claim to
remove unsoldered solder paste and also conductive adhesives. I guess that
they mean adhesives in the uncured state but they don't explicitly exclude
cured adhesive. Since tantalum chips use a conductive adhesive to make the
internal cathode connection, I am not too sure I want this stuff on my
parts. I am concerned about internal damage if the solvent penetrates the
case up the leadframe egress. Maybe I am just paranoid.

In searching the archives, I found several postings about VIGON, but most
addressed how well it cleans the boards or stencils, not any impact on
components. I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks
Nancy Reynolds
