It would be desireable to collect the tons of discarded (lost is the accurate
word) lead wheel weights from.the side of every road  They represent a
concentrated, easily recycled source of lead, far better and easier than
mining the stuff.

But  the environmental question is still a different one.  There seem to be
many references that point to facts that lead is indeed toxic-- in living
tissues, but it isn't bioavailable when ingested in water by humans. It turns
into the insoluble chloride and passes through-- back to nature.
