I'm working on my own private software project lately. My final goal is
still far away, but what I've got so far does exactly what you describe.
If you can make a tidy ASCII textfile with RefDes, X, Y, Rotation and
PartValue, my program (with the humble name "SMT-Maestro") can import the
file and will show the position of parts and it's details while you scroll
through the partslist.
A free beta-version is availabe at
http://www.smtinfo.net/smtmaestro/smtmaestro.html
The filesize is only 400KB, so that shouldn't stop you from checking this
out...
