Hi, Rich,

I'm not aware of a standard beyond MIL-STD-100 for Drawing Office
Practices. Every Company has its own styles, idiosynchrocies, information
requirements, etc. Even different projects within the same company have
different styles of presentation, depending on whether or not there is an
overall head of function to drive commonality and consistency.

The battle to establish consistency is one fought for years in my last
Company, and in one division eventually managed to produce something that
became a local standard in terms of layout, style, information content,
references to other documents such as internal standard operating
procedures, operation numbering and a semi-standard set of words for each
operation type.

Then you're faced with different presentation media - from black and white
Instruction Books to full-blown web pages on Intranets with all the colour,
animation and other features that can make multi-media documents so much
more flexible and interesting to use.

I believe we're a long way from establishing a standard for such documents,
even if anyone is looking into producing one, but it wouldn't be a bad idea
to try.

Hello everyone!

I am interested in finding out if there is a documented standard(s) for
developing engineering/manufacturing documents in the electronics industry.
(Ex. standardized symbols, standardized drawing layouts, etc...) I am not
really looking for software tools that will assist in developing those
documents (ie AutoCAD, etc...) but rather a standard that shows consistency
in how manufacturing or engineering documents should look.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
