In the old days there used to be a book published by Bishops Graphics, "The
Design and Drafting of Printed Circuits" which was a very useful guide.
Maybe someone on the list knows of a modern day equivalent.

You should get a hold of IPC-D-325A "Documentation Requirements of Printed
Boards, Assemblies and Support Drawings".  This document however, will not
help you with schematic symbols if that is what you are after.
