The QX3 was originally designed as a toy but does give remarkably good
images. We designed the electronics and sensor for it and do have a few in
our office which engineers use from time to time. I believe someone in the
US is modifying the scope by improving the illumination and upgrading the
optics so it may be worth doing a web search to try and track them down.
Illumination is very much a performance limiter on the 'standard' design but
can be easily improved if you're that way inclined.
Being basically a microscope web cam it can do all the useful things a web
cam can do like capturing bitmaps to mail to people, time lapse...
In any event for $99 you get what you pay for. Check it out before you buy.
