hi,

i strongly recommend that you talk to the engineering staff of companies that supply compliant pin contacts. two that come to mind are:

amphenol aerospace, sydney, ny, and
teradyne, nashua, nh

i know they have piles of data covering their products.

Subject: [TN] Press-fit

The alloy of a soldered connector shields the plated through hole and the
connector pins against the oxidation.
What about press-fit connector ?

With a compliant pin which will deform, I guess it sould not be an issue.
Because the pres-fit zone of the pin compresses, the plating of the drilled
through hole is saved from possible destruction of the through connection to
the circuit paths.

Are there any recommendations about the storage of PCB with press-fit
connectors, and are there any studies about the reliability (especially
concerning the oxidation and storage issues) of the press-fit connector ?

Thanks very much in advance for helping.

Walter.
