Eric, I have a catalog right here from a major cap supplier....

The max thickness of an 0402 part is 24 mils or 0.6mm.  You'll need to add
the reflowed solderpaste thickness (and possibly board pad thickness?) to
get the max. height from the board, which may be what your customer is
really after.
