Richard,

Any time there's relative motion between an electrical conductor and a
magnetic field, there are electrical currents induced in the conductor.
That's about the only definite thing that can be said.

Whether or not the IC can be damaged by these currents depends upon many
factors:  The strength of the field, the rate of relative motion, the
bipolar impedance of the affected IC leads, the length of the IC lead, etc.
And the list goes on.  Sorry.

(Unless it's a _very_ special IC, chances are it's not a problem.)

Do any of you know (definitely) if it is possible to damage an IC with a
small magnetic field?  Such as one on the end of a pair of tweezers?
