I am hoping to get some technical information on why internal traces react
per below.


We have noticed that thin traces on the inner layers have a tendency
to burn down the entire length of the trace when exposed to excess
currents.
Similar traces on the outside layers seem to just open and do not
result in flames.

Are there any mil specs or IPC standards that explain what is happening to
the trace or more specifically the board when excess current is applied.
