Brian and Harvey:
It is my understanding that the European risk "assessment" advisors were
representatives of the tin consortium. So, in addition to the mindless
fear of lead, vested interests were at work in the decision-making.
Indeed, a distressing number of measures passed world-wide in the name
of environmental protection result from financial interests of the
policy brokers. One Canadian (whose name I shall not mention because I
do not wish to spend the rest of my life in litigation) often referred
to in reverent manner has made a fortune from a combination of political
crony-ism and organization of global environmental conferences.
